Skanda: The Attacker, a 2023 Indian Telugu-language action film, was directed by Boyapati Srinu and produced by Srinivasaa Chitturi under Srinivasaa Silver Screen in collaboration with Zee Studios. Ram Pothineni played a dual role in the film, alongside Sreeleela, Saiee Manjrekar, Srikanth, Sharath Lohithaswa, Ajay Purkar, Daggubati Raja, and Prince Cecil.
The film's official announcement came in February 2022, initially titled BoyapatiRAPO. However, the official title Skanda was revealed in July 2023. Principal photography commenced in October 2022 and concluded in August 2023. Thaman S composed the music, while Santosh Detake and Tammiraju handled the cinematography and editing, respectively.
Upon its release on September 28, 2023, Skanda received mixed-to-negative reviews from critics. The performances of the cast, particularly Ram and Sreeleela, as well as the cinematography, background score, and action sequences were praised. However, the direction, screenwriting, and soundtrack faced criticism. Despite grossing ₹59.20 crore, the film fell short of expectations at the box office, resulting in disappointment.
Plot
Rayudu, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, orchestrates his daughter's marriage to Chinnappa. However, during the wedding ceremony, Ranjith Reddy, the son of the Chief Minister of Telangana, unexpectedly arrives as a guest and elopes with Rayudu's daughter. This incident sparks anger and animosity between Ranjith Reddy and Rayudu, turning them into enemies.
Meanwhile, Bhaskar Raju, a college student, kidnaps both Rayudu's daughter and Ranjith Reddy's daughter, Sreeleela Reddy, who also happens to be Bhaskar's classmate. He takes them to his hometown in Rudrarajupuram. It is later revealed that these kidnappings are connected to the CEO of the Crown Group company, Rudrakanti Ramakrishna Raju. Ramakrishna Raju is awaiting his death penalty and was falsely imprisoned by Ranjith Reddy and Rayudu for refusing to legitimize their illegal money. Interestingly, Ramakrishna Raju happens to be the best friend of Bhaskar's father, Manikanta Raju. Bhaskar is determined to prove Ramakrishna Raju's innocence, as he was forced to take the blame in order to protect his captive daughter, Rudraganti Parineeta, who was held by Ranjith and Rayudu's men.
With no other option, Ranjith and Rayudu decide to bail out Ramakrishna Raju from prison. In retaliation, the duo attacks Bhaskar and his family during a temple festival. However, they are saved by Bhaskar's doppelgänger, Skanda. Eventually, Ranjith and Rayudu confess their crimes to the media. When Ramakrishna Raju inquires about Skanda, it is revealed that Skanda is a notorious assassin from Morocco, responsible for the death of a powerful crime boss named Daniel, based in Morocco. Upon learning about Skanda's dark past, Rayudu and Ranjith Reddy become fearful of him. Skanda walks away, hinting that his story will continue in the sequel, titled Skanda 2.
